One Year Since Aldi’s Next Big Thing – A Moosh Milestone ✨
Exactly one year ago, something amazing happened: Moosh Mallows appeared on Channel 4’s Aldi’s Next Big Thing. I can still remember the nerves, the excitement, and the sheer disbelief of seeing my little marshmallow business on national TV. It was one of the most surreal and rewarding experiences of my life—and it truly changed everything.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Just a few weeks before I received the email asking me to apply, I had decided to slowly power Moosh Mallows down and go back to my main job as a Copywriter. I was going to do one last Christmas and maybe make a few occasional batches but it had got to the point where the logistics of running this business, growing my freelance Copywriting and working it all around family life had become too much. The universe obviously had other ideas….
In July of 2023, I travelled up to Aldi HQ to film the first part of the program where you pitch to Julie Ashfield, the head of Buying for Aldi in the UK. No big deal… And of course, the hosts, Anita Rani and Chris Bavin who are both so lovely! It was a long day but luckily everyone else in my category was so nice! To my utter disbelief, I made it to the final two. Then the work really started - redesigning my prototype packaging and taking on the feedback about flavour and texture that Julie had asked for. In September I did a couple of days filming with the crew who were so incredible. For someone who hates being in front of the camera, they were so calm and reassuring, it made it much less painful! Roll on October and I travelled back to Aldi HQ, this time dragging my husband along for moral support for the final result.
Spoiler Alert: I didn’t win but it really didn’t matter by that point… The experience and exposure was more than I ever could have asked for! Yas is also such a lovely guy, it was amazing to see him win, his product in store and the great things he’s done with Cluster Club.
Since then, the journey has been a bit of a whirlwind. The exposure from the show gave Moosh Mallows the boost it needed, and I can honestly say I wouldn't still be doing this without it. But even more than that, it’s the community that’s kept me going—you lot, with your amazing support, encouragement, and sweet teeth 😄. The feedback you guys give me make it all worth it!
Despite the growth, every single Moosh Mallow is still made by hand, in-house. Yep, my kitchen is still very much the heart of it all. I’ve dreamed of moving into a dedicated production space for a while, and while rising costs have put that on hold for now, it’s still firmly in my sights. I’ve even got a few ideas brewing that I can’t wait to share when the time’s right.
But today is all about celebrating how far Moosh has come—and saying thank you.

Running a small business is full of ups and downs, and I won’t lie—there have been moments where I wasn’t sure I could keep going. But this past year reminded me just how powerful a bit of belief, pure stubborn-ness and a whole lot of sugar can be!
