Plastic Free.

When I was developing Moosh Mallows, one thing I wanted them to be was plastic free. I was not willing to compromise on this in any way. In my daily life I try to be as considerate as possible and avoid single use plastic where possible. So I set about building the product around packaging that ticked the right boxes…

Why 9?

I always knew I needed the product to be letterbox-friendly so began the hunt for boxes. They needed to of course be no taller than the average letterbox which made the search quite limited. Length and width wise also proved tricky as most of the “off the shelf” boxes out there are for flower delivery services. But eventually I managed to find one that worked and off we went from there working out the optimum size of marshmallow that would fit comfortably into the box of 9 was born.

The bags.

The next thing was the bags. Handmade marshmallows should be stored in an airtight environment, so I really needed to use a bag or wrap of some sort. So even though the plastic free alternatives are more expensive, I am willing to take the hit as I will not compromise on this point.

Moosh Mallows are packed in NatureFlex™ film bags that are made in the UK from cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp, making them a more eco-friendly packaging alternative to current polypropylene, PVC bags etc.

These bags are made from NatureFlex™ film that has been accredited compostable for both Industrial and Home Composting to 'EN 13432' and 'OK Compost Home'. They are also approved for Anaerobic digestion to ISO 15985. The film has also been tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse (ecotoxic) effects on future plant growth to maintain a closed carbon loop.

I would say that’s a pretty good alternative.

All the other bits.

You can read about the new boxes here and the Moosh Map here. Every component of the packaging is as eco-friendly as possible, recyclable and sometimes even recycled (that is usually the postal packaging). The tape that seals the postal boxes is paper tape with a water based adhesive. Again, no single use plastic here. I am doing my best with what my budget allows but I will always strive to do the best I can when it comes to keeping Moosh as eco and sustainable as possible.

So that about wraps it up…

See what I did there?
